a. Sadly, this is true but was a more common practice back in 2011 and 2012 when compensation claims for mis-sold PPI were still in their infancy. Today, the claim management industry has professionalised itself with many leading claim management firms enjoying excellent reputation for the profession service they offer. Claim firms don't just deal with PPI claims, although many like Payment Protection Scotland choose to specialise in them.

The mark of an excellent claim management firm is that they robustly assess your clam before submitting any letters of complaint on your behalf. At Payment Protection Scotland, it is essential we find out whether you have PPI on your accounts or not. Until we do so, we won't act.

b. FALSE. The Financial Services Ombudsman is the independent body that settles disputes between the consumer and the bank in the case of any unresolved dispute about any financial product, not just PPI. Their workload when it comes to PPI is heavy and so if you do submit your complaint to them, they estimate it will be 12 months before they look at your case.

You must take your PPI complaint to your bank or lenders first, giving them an opportunity to resolve the issue. If they fail to do so, you can ask the Financial Services Ombudsman to look at the case.

c. TRUE. As well as deadlines relating to making claims under consumer law, the Financial Conduct Authority has also introduced a blanket PPI compensation claim deadline.

If you want to claim your money back, you have until August 2019 to do so. Once midnight on 29th August passes, you won't be able to make a claim for PPI mis-sold before July 2017. But don't wait until 2019, start you claim now.

d. FALSE. No claims management company can guarantee a successful claim. Many companies, including Payment Protection Scotland, regularly publish their 'success rates'. We believe our success rate is high because we have an excellent information gathering process at the start - if you do not have a claim, we will tell you.

If you think you have a claim for PPI compensation, don't delay - give Scottish PPI Claims a call today to see how we can help you.
